The House Republican Leadership Legislative Intern Program provides college students with the unique opportunity of developing skills for their chosen profession while gaining a better understanding of the General Assembly through a hands-on experience.
Students selected to intern with our office will have the opportunity to work on various projects and tasks on a daily basis. The projects wo
uld be assigned by members of Caucus Leadership, the Chief of Staff, or the Internship Coordinator. Students will be given a chance to experience the entire legislative process from issue research, bill tracking, following committee proceedings, and watching debate and final passage on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Depending upon the skills of the student and the needs of each day, interns could be asked to attend committee meetings and write summary reports for caucus members. At times, interns may be asked to shadow a caucus member and handle schedules and constituent correspondence.
Along with skill development that each intern gleans from the program, they also reap the benefits of networking opportunities, professional contacts and experience working in a fast-paced environment with legislators.
